"80% of the global population use Herbal Medicine as their primary
form of healthcare” , The World Health Organisation (WHO)
Herbal Medicine is both a modern science and an ancient art. Medical Herbalism is increasingly being validated by scientific investigation. Why?
- Plants provide the prinicipal ingredients in medicines of most global medical traditions
- Many modern pharmaceuticals have been modelled on or are derived from chemicals found in plants e.g heart medication Digoxin, which is derived from foxglove
- Treats and helps prevent illnesses and infections, as well as improving vitality
- It is suited to people of all ages, from babies to the elderly
- It is largely without unpleasant side-effects
- Herbal Medicine is extraordinarily popular. According to an ipsos MORI report commissioned by H.M. Government's MHRA in January 2009, 35% of adults in the UK have used Herbal Medicine
Herbal medication comes in many forms:
- Alcohol-based liquid tinctures are the most common
- Tablets or capsules, dependent on condition
- Tailor-made creams and ointments
