Description

To feel happy, we need a good supply of the hormone Serotonin in our brain. Serotonin is in fact known as the “happy hormone”. The reason why chocolate is so comforting and can lift us out of mild depression is because it boosts our serotonin levels. Changes in the serotonin levels in the brain can alter the mood. For example, medications that affect the action of serotonin are used to treat depression.

Serotonin is also called 5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HTP. Our bodies make 5-HTP from tryptophan, an essential amino acid that we obtain from high protein foods such as meat and dairy products. The body uses 5-HTP to regulate mood, sleep pattern and appetite. The good news is that researchers have discovered a natural source of 5-HTP in the seeds of an African vine called Griffonia simplicifolia. These contain a high level of 5-HTP and millions of people worldwide are taking it for mood disorders every day. It is important that the Griffonia extract meets quality and potency criteria as there are inferior products on the market.

60 tablets

Mild drowsiness may occur in some people. It is advisable not to drive or operate machinery until you determine how 5-HTP affects you.
